The Rock School for Dance Education, founded in 1963, is one of the top preparatory professional ballet schools in the United States, with a combined enrollment of 1,200 students from around the world. Bo Spassoff and Stephanie Wolf Spassoff, former dancers with American Ballet Theatre and San Francisco Ballet, have directed the school for nearly twenty years. Mr. Spassoff is a a former dancer with Royal Danish Ballet, a former artistic director of Savannah Ballet and Ballet Oklahoma and former ballet master of Pennsylvania Ballet. Ms. Spassoff is a former principal dancer with Savannah Ballet and Ballet Oklahoma and a former soloist with Pennsylvania Ballet. The Rock School’s artistic advisor is the esteemed Violette Verdy, the former and first female Artistic Director of the famed Paris Opera Ballet, as well as the former Artistic Director of the Boston Ballet.
The Rock School’s curriculum includes not only dance, but also an in-house accredited high school known as RAPA (Rock Academic Program Alliance). RockReach, The School’s community outreach program, provides a high-quality arts education program that has reached more than 80,000 inner-city children over the past 9 years. Rock School alumni have been placed in companies including New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Paris Opera Ballet, Dance Theater of Harlem, San Francisco Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet, as well as Phantom of the Opera, Chicago (the film), Aida, Cats, Boy From Oz, The Crucible on Broadway and more.
