Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
I've had this business since 1991 - though I've been actively doing this work since 1976 while in college!
What is your primary product or service?
We provide professional and impactful voice over services for projects of any kind. My background of over 35+ years in radio, television, and acting provides me the experience and the basis for producing top-flight commercial reads, narrations, audio-book projects, company voice mail greetings and IVR prompts, hosting of live events, free-lance reporting of both news and sports, and emcee services.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I started down the path of broadcasting & acting when I was a freshman at the University of California in Berkeley. I saw a flyer to check out an information session at the student radio station, and as a wide-eyed 18 year old on his own for the first time I thought it would be interesting. Once I got there, I met great people, and made lifelong friends, and was encouraged to pursue this path by individuals with major West Coast broadcast pedigrees, some who are at the highest levels even now at national networks and even running a recent World Series-winning Major League baseball team!
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
By not talking. I have found that listening to what the client needs or wants, and really asking them for feedback on what they feel set me apart from the ones who are just doing a job and really aren't invested in the finished product. I want my clients to hear something that makes them smile, and be able to come back and allow ME to thank THEM for bringing their project to life. Part of my natural desire to help people, as it has been my whole life. And I truly love satisfying my customers so when they hear a project done, they say, "Damn, that's exactly what I want!"
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Just the one studio. No expansion needed, but will come to the customer and work at their facility or a designated studio if needed. Will travel anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic for the right job.
Provide detailed directions to your location
Not necessary - I come to them!
What type of payments do you accept?
I provide a detailed invoice, generally with Net30 terms, and allow payment by cash or check or PayPal.
Which areas do you service?
I've done projects for global concerns, so that's not a limitation! Based in the Philadelphia area, I can easily reach out to a wide audience from here. I can also travel within 100 miles if necessary.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Three people - me, myself and I! :-)
What are your hours of operation?
Normal business hours, but I will entertain acting opportunities outside the 9-5 window every day of the week!
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
That I made a difference. Or that they've never worked with someone who cared more about their project or them than me. I still get people I run into who'll say, "Oh yeah! I used to listen to you all the time! You were the best reporter they had!" ... at which point I have to pay them, of course! :-)
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
Have to think on this one... I have a few! One thing I always say is, "Wherever You Go, There You Are!"
