Merge Dance Studio has been in business since July 2012.
What is your primary product or service?
Merge Dance Studio offers weekly classes in creative movement, mommy/daddy & me, ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, modern/contemporary, jazz funk/hip-hop, acro, Piloxing, BARRE Fusion, and Zumba. Other dance services offered include private lessons, dance birthday parties, Girl Scout dance badge workshops, studio rentals, and much more!
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Merge Dance Studio's owner and artistic director, Christa Campbell, is originally from Wisconsin where she began her dance training locally in Madison as well as at various summer programs, including Virginia School of the Arts and the Joffrey Ballet. She went on to attend Point Park University in Pittsburgh, PA, graduating with a BA in dance. After graduating she moved to Indianapolis, IN to dance professionally with the Graham based modern dance company Dance Kaleidoscope. Christa then relocated to Philadelphia to pursue her dance career further. Christa has danced with Vada Dance Collective based in Philadelphia, PA since 2006 and with Melange Contemporary Dance Company based in Pottstown, PA since 2009, with whom she toured Poland during the summer of 2010. Christa danced with 180 Dance Company from 2009-2012 and ContempraDance Theatre from 2004-2012, with whom she toured Poland during the summer of 2006. She has also performed with REALM as a part of the World Dance Extravaganza, with Theatre Mama with which she helped promote the Cirque du Soleil show “KOOZA”, with Public Eye: Artists for Animals, Indigenous Pitch Dance Collective, Move & Groove Productions, Saltarium Dance Company, and as a guest artist with the Schuylkill Valley Regional Dance Company (SVRDC). Christa has also appeared as a dance instructor in the TV commercial for Versa Fit Studio, as a dancer in the promotional video for Nelson Illusions and has performed at a Pittsburgh Pirates game. Christa has over nine years of teaching experience at many area dance schools and Universities and was the co-director and choreographer for the ContempraYouth Dancers, who performed in Disney World in April 2008 and May 2011, from 2006-2012. Christa’s teaching credits include master classes and workshops for Cirque du Soleil, Temple University, Marywood University and many local dance schools. In addition to the ContempraYouth Dancers her choreography has been performed by Melange Contemporary Dance Company, 180 Dance Company, Temple University Opera Theater, The Siena Players, Nelson Illusions, Public Eye: Artists for Animals, the Villanova Wildcat Dancers and as a part of the Plymouth Whitemarsh High School Miss PW Pageant. Christa served as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Schuylkill Valley Regional Dance Company from 2009-2012 and is a certified Piloxing® and ZUMBA® instructor (christacampbell.zumba.com).
